The 5th Anniversary of the Concordance
November 7/8 2008¹

There are certain milestones which are recognized in the passage of time.  For us, one such landmark is the 5th anniversary of The Harmonic Concordance. 

It seems as though it was just the other night that we looked up at the Total Lunar Eclipse that was one of the major features of the astrological chart which heralded the Harmonic Concordance.  The celebrations and ceremonies that took place then marked the single largest spiritual assemblage, at one specific moment in time, in recorded history.  Untold millions of spiritually oriented people around the Planet - from Moscow to Malaysia, from the Aleutians to Tierra del Fuego, took time, individually and in groups small and large, to join in a moment of prayerful common intent.  From literally thousands of locations around the globe simultaneous prayers went out for three  specific intents:

the actualization of our individual relationship with the
One Source of Creation. 
the unconditional acceptance of Unity Consciousness
(that we are all ONE) and
a healing for our beloved Mother Earth,

But that Concordance was also a part of the continuum in time that began with the Harmonic Convergence of August of 1987, and which will culminate with the Mayan Calendar end date in December of 2012.²   Other sign posts along that path include the Concordance Quintiles of 2004, the Concordance Pentecost of 2005 and the Aquarius Stellium of February, 2008.   Now we are fast approaching another of those time markers, the 5th Anniversary of the Concordance, this coming November 7/8. 

One of the ways an astrologer might look at an anniversary chart is to see what the Transits would bring to the original chart.  However, the way I do this is to look at the Solar Return for the date in question.  Because we insert an extra day into the calendar every four years during the leap year,  a Solar Return may occur either on, or a day before or after, the calendar birthday.   In this case the Solar Return is the day before.

Just as any birthday or anniversary may be the occasion for a celebratory gathering of family and friends, so too are we planning to have such a gathering in our own High Desert community on the evening of November 7th.   We invite you to join with us, wherever you are on that evening, individually or in groups, as we renew our connection to that model of Ascended Man depicted in the Concordance Grand Sextile and reaffirm our commitment to the "ascension attitudes" of Love, Praise and Gratitude.

The Solar Return

It has been said that intuitives can feel the influence of a solar return as much as three months before the actual event, which is why this Newsletter is being sent out some three months in advance of the date.  According to Mary Shea, author of Planets in Solar Returns, a return chart is an appropriate indication of psychological change and inner growth.  Therefore, for instance, with Saturn in the 11th house of this return, we who participate in its observance are more likely to realize, in harmony with close friends and associates (11th house), growth and enhanced responsibility (Saturn) towards the details (Virgo) of our highest goals and ambitions.  In short, it will be a good time to gather with others of like mind and recall those highest goals and ambitions expressed in the afore mentioned Harmonic Concordance intents.

Solar Arc Directions

There are other ways that we can look at an anniversary chart.  One that will be familiar to astrologers is to progress the chart to the desired day.   While many astrologers will use the standard day-for-a-year secondary progressions, I have long preferred using the Solar Arc Directions to progress a chart.³

There are two elements in any Solar Arc Directions chart which distinguish it from the Secondary Progressions.  The first and perhaps most notable is that in a Solar Arc Directed chart the "pattern" at birth remains the same as the chart is progressed throughout the life.  A chart's pattern may be seen as analogous to a person’s DNA at birth.  In the Concordance chart, that birth "DNA" contained a Grand Sextile in compatible signs as well as a Total Lunar Eclipse!

The second distinction which arises out of the Solar Arc Directions, as opposed to the Secondary Progressions, has to do with the set of the Sabian Symbols associated with each degree of the chart.⁴

Fifth Night to Sixth Day

Finally, it is also interesting to note that the Concordance anniversary falls at the intersection of the Mayan Calendar’s 5^th night and 6^th day.   The former, which runs from November 19, 2007 through November 12, 2008  is said to be characterized by a period when human beings will be less in alignment with spiritual consciousness and more likely to be ruled by fear and passion.    According to my shaman friend, Lone Eagle, the 6^th day, on the other hand (November 13, 2008 - November 6, 2009) promises a return to a period of "Enlightenment."  It will be a time to realize that the experiences and problems of the 5th night were precipitated by the lack of integrity characterized by a rule of fear.  The Concordance anniversary, very nearly at the exact fulcrum of this turning point, can serve as an appropriate bridge at this critical juncture of this Mayan night and day.

2.  Interestingly, the 9th Anniversary of the Concordance  (NINE is the number of "completion") just coincidently will be only a few short weeks before the Mayan Calendar 2012 end date.  In other words, the first completed Concordance cycle will coincide nicely with the "completion" of the Mayan Calendar.

3.  Secondary Progressions count the days after the birth as they appear in an ephemeris, each ephemeris day representing a day in the life.  This has the effect of moving, or progressing, the slower moving planets, from Jupiter out, at snail’s pace for the majority of the life.  In a Secondary Progressed chart only the Moon moves swiftly, averaging about 13° a day.  For Pluto, on the other hand, the movement might be as slow as 15 seconds a day, suggesting a rather static role for it during a lifetime.  Solar Arc Directions, on the other hand, move each planet forward by the same number of minutes for a day in a life as the Sun moves, each day. 

4.  In a typical day, the Sun advances through the Zodiac at a rate of about 56 minutes, or slightly less that one degree.  Consequently, each planet moves forward, or progresses, that same 56 minutes per year.  All of the planets, in this method of Progression, play a much more active role as the chart (person, place or event) develops, as well as producing an entirely different set of Sabian symbols for the chart. 

5. All charts herein reference Greenwich as the location.  The "Anniversary" chart of November 8th 2008 is set for the exact moment that sun makes its annual return to its own position in the original Harmonic Concordance chart of November 9, 2003 at Greenwich.
