Luna-Tick
Fringe Finds To most people, November 8, 2003 will be no more
special than any other time. Even though our days of the week were named
for the Sun, the Moon and planets, even though every significant culture
until contemporary times had taken astrology seriously, most modern people
do not care about this sort of thing at all. Even those that do value
astrology in our era do not agree on what celestial occurrences are the
most relevant. Consider
the Moon. Many contemporary astrological minds cannot imagine any
significant collective significance to a floating rock that has been
reduced to little more than a big PMS meter in the sky. No matter that the
Buddha was said to have reached en-Lighten-ment at a full moon. For
these people, lunar activity is relegated entirely to the mood alteration
at personal level, with animals, children and women being most
susceptible.
Anyone, particularly an adult male, who gets worked up over the
Moon is considered “loony,” unstable, irrational --- a lunatic. An
alternative perspective (not just mine) on the Moon as relevant to
collective events is to see the Moon as what I call the “luna-tick.”
If other celestial movement is seen as analogous to the movement of
the Hour and minute hands of a clock, the movement of the Moon is like a
second hand on a watch, ticking away. At a lunar eclipse, the Moon visibly
appears to be going through Her changes very rapidly, therefore being more
relevant than an ordinary Full Moon. However, even lunar eclipses are not
that infrequent. What
might make this particular eclipse more significant than others?
Some of us who see the Moon as related to fairly precise timing are
very excited about the astrological timing of what is called “The
Harmonic Concordance” (the lunar eclipse of November 2003). John
Mirehiel and others have their own persuasive reasons
to consider this to be a very special time. I have my own observations to
add to the discussion. Although the eclipse is visible, at least
partially, in different places, the location of greatest significance is
Washington, DC, the capital city of the world’s only super power nation. Saturn
rises in the East as Chiron sets, in opposition, in the West, both square
Pallas Athena in the tenth house. There are images for each of the 360
degrees of the Zodiac, psychically derived in 1925, and much respected
within astrology. The image of Pallas Athena in this chart is: “A bomb
which failed to explode is now safely hidden from discovery.” This large
asteroid appears to be moving backwards in the sky. She is in the house of
government, and is associated with a woman in a man’s realm,
particularly defense. National Security advisor, Condolesa Rice, fits this
image well, as does the controversial issue of the undiscovered “weapons
of mass destruction” used for the justification of the U.S.-led war on
Iraq. Governing
Saturn is retrograde in Cancer, on the U.S.’ and the President’s Sun.
Lynda Hill interprets this degree with a caution: “Seeing nothing. A
lack of purpose.
A feeling of abandonment.
Loss and darkness.
The exploitation and abandonment of native people.” Chiron,
the underdog minority outsider(s), mythically totally unwanted by Saturn,
in the house of one’s opponent(s), is putting pressure on this internal
tension within the administration. The government spokesperson(s) look to
be on the defensive (Cancer), lacking decisiveness (Saturn retrograde)
about what to say about a topic that they had hoped would have been
forgotten by then (Athena retrograde). Chiron, like a little guy with a
fulcrum, could rock the tentative balance if “he” doesn’t get
crushed in the process. (Saturn, fearing his overthrow from power, ate
every one of his children that he could, and Chiron was his mutant bastard
son….) (N.B.: Underdog representatives JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King, Carnahan,
Wellstone, etc. all died unnatural deaths at the time that they threatened
the conservative Saturnine status quo….) As
regards hour/minute hand cycles, the 1965 Uranus – Pluto conjunction
epitomizing the spirit of profound irresistible change, the revolutionary,
subversive “spirit of the sixties,” occurred on 16+ Virgo: “A
volcanic eruption bringing dust clouds, flowing lava, earth rumblings.”
Mass demonstrations erupted, demonstrators flowing like molten lava, tear
gas clouds, and rumbling sounds were heard. The restless discontent, the
longing to change things dramatically, did not die. Periodically that
spirit is born anew. The
Uranus – Pluto conjunction is analogous to our time’s “hour hand.”
Harmonic Concordance (HC) Pluto squares that original place, our
“minute hand.” (The image says, in part, “…disturbed by the
garbage of people…”) Facilitating
the process, HC Jupiter is closely conjunct the volcano degree, but on the
refined “Fine lace ornamental handkerchief’ (not exactly the scruffy
anarchist!) Further, HC Sun at 16+ Scorpio sextiles the volcano degree
exactly. Our Luna-ticking “second hand” is the eclipsed Moon at 16+
Taurus. She is trine, that is “in flow with,” this degree on: “A
symbolic battle between “swords,’ the disciples of might, and
‘torches,’ the disciples of enlightenment.” What
else is happening? The eclipsed Moon rules the ascendant and the chart
itself for a chart based in Washington, DC. The Part of Fortune is
conjunct the descendant: “An angel comes carrying a harp.” Divine
intervention? The underdog(s) continually “harping” on
something---where are the WMDs? One who/those who plays stringed
instrument(s) HC for DC Midheaven: “A master instructing his
disciple”---is this not a special time, when our purpose is to learn
something, and/or teach someone a lesson? There is much more to this
chart, but I will leave further comment to others, or for another time. I
would like to join the chorus of those who encourage us to converge the
evening (EST) of 11/8/2003, wherever they will happen to be, or at least
join us via mindful attunement. I particularly encourage activity and
awareness in Washington, DC and vicinity at this very special time.
Renewed activism could make a difference now. Peace. It’s better to be part of a beautiful luna-tick fringe on the social fabric than to remain a doormat to those who would oppress us. Or, as Martin Luther King said in Strength to Love: “I am convinced that the universe is under the control of a loving purpose, and that in the struggle for righteousness man has cosmic companionship. Behind the harsh appearance of the world, there is a benign power.” Dale
