The Other Side of the
Coin Astrological history is littered with the corpses of marvelous skyshows of great portent, dynamic balance, historical promise, and spiritual progression. The last several decades have seen them recognized by local services, massed prayers, coordinated meditations on the Internet, and much more (or less, depending on your view). Most often the least-heralded and unlikely ones bring on cultural and socio/political watersheds, while the ones we astrologers pick as being earthshaking, pass by relatively unnoticed except for those in our area and ancillary fields of interest. The questions we should ask, upon looking at this delightfully kaleidoscopic planetary configuration, are many. Is this one different? Did other configurations, although politically/ historically unnoticed, in fact make big splashes in the spiritual world, yet to be manifested (and, by association, will this one)? Are we looking for a set of current events, when we should be looking at the design of later ones? Ultimately, what effects we expect from a sky show, incoming or outgoing? Are we the recipients of more-perfect (or in other cases, more-dire) rays raining down upon us, or are we riding into situations of opportunity which we may choose to seize upon or ignore? Other authors on this site have well-covered the esoteric and mundane implications of this marvelous set of aspects, so I will eschew excursions into those domains. I would rather look at what a momentary transiting set of aspects essentially amounts to in the essence of traditional astrology, and that is a birth. Every instant of the day, in this crowded world, a child is born, along with that being's horoscope, a pattern of inclinations, propensities, possibilities, problems, and potentials that work themselves out as time goes on within the physical limitations of the real physical, social, and historical world that individual has to manifest in. That is the nature of the natal horoscope. It is an initial set of conditions which, in chaos theory terminology, tend to persist in the system so established. What we often fail to realize, especially in horary and electional astrology, is that everything we do, each promise we make, each lie we tell, each new acquaintance we make, has its own birth horoscope, which lives on just as our natal ones do, and haunts us as a subset of our own. Every moment, a mini-system is born, interlinked with us, that clings to us. Sign that deal on a VOC Moon, and you're in trouble, trouble that will pursue you until the deal fails or transforms. A word spoken in anger as Mars conjuncts the Moon will come back to slap you years hence as the chart progresses out to intersect your own again and bring your karma home. So also do love tokens given in childhood come home to comfort in old age. Once you set something going, it becomes a system, has a life of its own with its own natal chart, and comes back to interact with you, well or ill, when the time is right. It is the result of your past (it's hard to avoid) and the architect of your future - it's the ultimate reason you should live in the NOW because it's the continual, and eternal, pivot point that controls everything. Wow, is that cosmic, or what...? So, when a particularly pretty (or at least geometric) picture like the Harmonic Concordance comes along, what should you do about it? The short story is, keep your eyes open and your wits about you. The long story is, what does such a dense combination of very flowing aspects mixed with very troublesome ones offer, chapter and verse, and how should you apply it personally? If this were simply a Star of David, this would be a breeze, oppositions and all, as the helpful outweighs the difficult in a pure picture. But this one is not pure, polluted by two T-squares and featuring an eclipse, which makes the whole thing very unpredictable (the eclipse part) and attached to lingering difficulties (T-squares). Plus, there are subtleties that make it even more complex that generally are absent in big Ptolmaic patterns, like an host of more refined aspects, especially biseptile (Venus/Saturn), septile (Sun/Uranus, Neptune/Pluto), 11th (Sun/Pluto, Moon/Mars) and 13th (Venus/Jupiter) aspects. To further imbalance such a ideally balanced pattern, cardinality is shy (Saturn only) and only generational planets Uranus and Neptune are in air, and fire is a bit short (only inner Venus and generational Pluto), making the whole thing a bit slow and turgid. Taking a step back, whatever it is, it's local to here (the Earth), since the heliocentric chart shows not much more than a ho-hum day as far as the overall solar system is concerned. None of the big, close grand trines and T-squares important in heliocentric (sometimes labeled karmic) astrology are present. So, don't get too celestial about it. Well, it sounds like I'm beginning to dump on the HC at this point, but that's not necessarily the case. It's a time for very mixed opportunity in a mundane sense, as there are so many conflicting and harmonic things happening at the same time. If I were going to advise clients to make a choice on this date, outside of a visionary one, I'd tell them to stay home and meditate, party, or watch TV. But as a time when everything is all relating to everything else, it's a great day for becoming more conscious about how everything relates to everything else, both well and ill. Take time out and have a vision. If you haven't already (which means you're not already on that set of progressions), this is the time - which is why these kind of configurations are probably so favored by those who are in the visionary or would-be visionary business. Nothing wrong with that - it's the best thing that can happen to you - saved my life long ago and set my clock forever. But it's not to be confused with good times to invest in the market or finalize that intimate relationship you've been working up to, unless it's one with the Universe. Coming from the world of journalism as well as astrology, I have to note that after every amazing story, no matter how much it commands the headlines, the world goes on, and you have another story the next day. And, it's just as important a story as the last one, no matter how small it seems. Astrologers are only astral journalists, and we have the same failings. For all our coverage, and all our predictions, we seldom get the real predictions right. Reality almost always upstages us. The biggest news happens with the least warnings, no matter how astute we are at chasing our leads, astrological or otherwise. Not to forget that the only folks that had a clue about Christ's birth were the Three Wise Men (astrologers all, no doubt), and they only got there after the fact to cover the story. We all should do so well... So, with all this, what will I be doing to take advantage of the Harmonic Concordance? If I'm here on Long Island, where it happens at 8:12 PM, I expect I will be raising a toast to it, and to all of us involved - and hoping it will be doing the same...What will the rest of the world be doing? Eating, sleeping, loving, fighting, laughing, crying. Mainly, being very special in that moment. And, in the next moment, being equally as special. And all of us will live in all those special convergent moments, as we do now...and forever.
